Bethany's UMW unit is part of a one million member organization -- the UNITED METHODIST WOMEN. We are a community of women whose purpose is to know God; to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to participate in the global ministries of the church.
We also help support Church Women United, a worldwide organization that dates back to 1924. Click here for more information, or contact Ann Sowaske. You can also visit the website at www.churchwomenunited-madison.net

Our History |
The involvement of Methodist women in missions began in 1869 when the Women’s Foreign Missionary Society was formed. Since then, through our Pledges to Mission, financial support for mission work around the world has continued with an emphasis on ministries to women, children and youth.
Throughout the years United Methodist Women have taken on mountainous challenges, such as racism, sexism and exploitation of women and children; successes that would never have been possible working alone.
We sincerely invite you to become a United Methodist Woman and join us as we nurture and encourage one another in spiritual growth and personal development and with others, help to improve the lives of women, children and youth worldwide.
We started a church-wide prayer shawl and baptism blanket project in 2008.

Membership and Activities |
| |
Bethany's UMW unit consists of the following sub groups, most of which meet monthly and all of which welcome new members: |
Agape -- Women, who come together for a light evening meal, fellowship and a program or service project. |
Arts & Crafts -- Women who meet during the day to do hand work and an annual service project together. They also trim and send Campbell's soup labels to Northcott Neighborhood House in Milwaukee. |
Book Browsers -- Women who enjoy reading and meet in the morning for a book review by one of the members. |
Gardeners -- An all-church group that plant and maintain garden areas of the church. |
Sewers Group -- Women who sew bed and lap covers at home to give to the needy. |
Susanna Circle -- Women who meet once a month for friendship, inspiration and knowledge. |
It is also possible to become An Individual Member; not part of a sub-group, but willing to contribute financial support, and attend and help at our activities.
There are spring and fall general meetings for all women of Bethany as well as two events to raise funds for Mission: a spring luncheon and a coffee shop/bake sale and lunch at Bethany's Fall Craft Sale. |
