Mission, Vision, & Values
Our Vision Statement
Every person
feels, knows
and shares God’s love.
Our Mission
Statement
We invite all to journey together
exploring and sharing Christ’s
reconciling love in real
and relevant ways.
What Do These Mean?
Our vision statement is what we at Bethany would like for the world to be. We believe that the ideal world would be one in which every person is fully aware of God’s love and chooses to be a part of sharing that love with others. The world would be a wonderful place if that vision could be realized!
Our mission statement is what we at Bethany feel called to do in order to help move the world closer to that vision. There are several key phrases:
-
We are already a very welcoming congregation. But we want to challenge ourselves to go a step further, finding ways actively to invite people whether strangers or friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers. We want all people from any background to feel welcome and at home here.
-
The word “journey” has been important to our congregation’s identity for a long time. We accept that people are in many different places in their life experiences and in their understanding of God. We are open to that, and we will seek to travel together seeking answers.
-
To find answers, we need to explore our faith through classes, groups, worship, and other avenues. Our faith never stops in the classroom, though – it should always lead us outward to share help for those who are in need.
-
We are called to share Christ’s love, which means being a reconciling people. The word “reconciling” is essentially about peace-making, helping to resolve differences in the world. The word embraces Bethany’s “Reconciling Ministry” of openness and advocacy for LGBT people. The word also articulates our congregation’s historic commitment to peace and justice ministries.
-
So-called “love” is often shared in superficial, non-genuine ways. But we want to share Christ’s love in real, meaningful ways that make a difference. We also seek to be relevant in our speech and actions – addressing the actual challenges that people are facing today.
